The Week Ahead: All Eyes on The Fed

Next week's calendar features the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) policy-setting meeting, as well as earnings from FedEx Corporation (FDX) and Nike Inc (NKE)

Janet Yellen and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) are in the hot seat next week, as the central bank is scheduled to release its latest policy decision on Wednesday. What's more, Yellen and fellow Fed officials Dennis Lockhart and Charles Evans will address the public throughout the week. Among the companies reporting earnings are logistics concern FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX), athletic apparel retailer Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), and housing issues KB Home (NYSE:KBH) and Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN).

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Monday

  • The week kicks off with the Empire State manufacturing survey, as well as industrial production and capacity utilization figures and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) housing market index. Molycorp (MCP), Inovio Pharmaceuticals (INO), and MagicJack VocalTec (CALL) will report earnings.

Tuesday

  • Housing starts are the sole data point on Tuesday's docket. Meanwhile, the FOMC begins its two-day policy-setting meeting. DSW Inc. (DSW) and Oracle (ORCL) will take their turns on the earnings stage.

Wednesday

  • The weekly crude inventories update will garner some attention Wednesday morning; however, all eyes will be on the FOMC, which will release its latest policy decision at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a press conference with Fed Chair Janet Yellen. Slated to report earnings are FedEx (FDX), General Mills (GIS), Guess (GES), Jabil Circuit (JBL), NQ Mobile (NQ), Renren (RENN), Silver Wheaton (SLW), and Tilly's (TLYS).

Thursday

  • Weekly jobless claims and the Philadelphia Fed survey will be released on Thursday. Nike (NKE) and Lennar (LEN) will tell all in the earnings confessional.

Friday

  • There are no economic reports slated for release on Friday, but Fed officials Dennis Lockhart and Charles Evans will speak. Darden Restaurants (DRI), KB Home (KBH), and Tiffany (TIF) will unveil earnings.
