TWTR, SWIR, and ONVO are among the stocks making big moves on the charts today
Rising oil prices have been a boon for the stock market today. Among specific equities in focus are social media stock Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR), telecom issue Sierra Wireless, Inc. (USA) (NASDAQ:SWIR), and biotech Organovo Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ONVO). Here's a quick look at what's moving shares of TWTR, SWIR, and ONVO.
Twitter Stock Continues Sell-Off After Downgrades
Shares of TWTR continue to sink after yesterday's ugly earnings report. Bearish brokerage notes continue to come through, including downgrades from UBS, Raymond James, Cowen, and Atlantic Equities, which all lowered their ratings to the equivalent of "sell." Deutsche Bank downgraded TWTR to "hold," and cut its price target by nearly 32% to $15, offering three reasons for the negative revision, which included weak monthly active user growth despite "mass publicity" from President Donald Trump's tweets. Twitter Inc stock was last seen 4.3% lower at $15.71, meaning the stock has now lost over 16% since Wednesday's close. Meanwhile, short sellers may be emboldened to increase their bets even further, as short interest jumped by 6% during the last reporting period.
Sierra Wireless Hits New Highs After Quarterly Report
SWIR is soaring today, after the company's better-than-expected fiscal first-quarter earnings. The stock has so far gapped 28.8% higher to $31.50, earlier hitting an annual high of $25.25. While a handful of analysts have since raised their price targets on the shares -- which have more than doubled over the past year -- additional bullish notes could be forthcoming. That is, only 20% of covering brokerage firms recommended buying Sierra Wireless, Inc. shares, as of last night's close.
Disappointing Forecast Sinks Organovo
ONVO is down 16% at $3.17, after the company lowered its full-year revenue outlook, overshadowing a smaller-than-expected per-share earnings loss. Today's drop puts the shares on pace for their first close below their 50-day moving average since early December, and onto the short-sale restricted list. It remains to be seen if analysts will adjust their bullish outlooks. At present, all four brokerage firms covering Organovo Holdings Inc recommend buying the stock.
