Ocean Power Technologies Inc (OPTT) and Skypeople Fruit Juice Inc (SPU) are the top two gainers on the Nasdaq this afternoon
Even as
the broader equities markets take a breather following a record-setting week, a handful of individual stocks are making big moves today. Drilling down on specific names, utility stock
Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:OPTT) and China-based fruit processor
Skypeople Fruit Juice Inc (NASDAQ:SPU) -- neither of which trade
options -- are easily the two top-percentage gainers on the Nasdaq, as volume soars on both OPTT and SPU.
While not
its biggest one-day percentage gain on record, shares of
OPTT have surged nearly 89% to trade at $8.93 -- and earlier hit an annual high of $10.10. Roughly 22.6 million OPTT shares have traded so far today, easily surpassing the 52-week peak of 21.99 million shares that crossed the tape on June 1. Yesterday, Ocean Power Technologies Inc announced it had
deployed its first commercially designed PB3 PowerBuoy system off the coast of New Jersey, helping send the shares to a 222% week-to-date gain.

SPU -- which was halted earlier for volatility -- was last seen 50% higher at $6.85, nearly filling its mid-November bear gap. However, just 4.5 million SPU shares have traded today, fewer than the annual-high 7.6 million shares that were exchanged on Thursday. Skypeople Fruit Juice Inc has been a powerhouse over these last two sessions, though, and has nearly tripled in value week-to-date.
