Is the Stock Market Open on Veterans Day?

Stock Market Holidays Memorial Day

YES. The U.S. markets are open on Veterans Day.

It is important for traders and investors to know the holiday schedule of the stock market. That is because the stock market does not follow the schedule as that of federal holidays. It is easy to get confused.

Veterans Day is the public holiday in America which is observed on the anniversary of the end of World War I (November 11th). It is held to honor the veterans of all the wars. Veterans Day is a federal holiday, but the U.S. markets remains open on this holiday for regular trading hours.

All U.S. stock exchange markets including NYSE, NASDAQ, and CBOE are open for normal trading hours from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET on Veterans Day. The bond market, however, is closed on Veterans Day and reopens on the following day. The commodities and currencies markets are also open for trading on this day, in additional to the U.S. stock markets.

Here are the two rules of market closure if the public holidays fall on the weekend:

  • The stock market closes on Friday if the public holiday falls on Saturday.
  • The stock market closes on the following Monday if the public holiday falls on Sunday.

Veterans Day 2020 will falls on Wednesday, November 11th. The U.S. markets will continue normal operations on this day.
